Disappearing into the narrow streets of Marrakech's large medina, this is the word that leaps to mind. People, bikes (pedalled and driven - all heading toward you), cats, donkeys, stalls and sellers; a cacophony of sights and sounds that can be overwhelming to the uninitiated.
And yet, disappear down a small alley and you will discover that the ancient pink city holds a secret or two; an oasis of calm, hidden behind giant metal doors.
Although there are several beautiful resorts within Marrakech, to really get a taste of this centuries old city, opt instead for one the stunning riads within the walls of the medina. As well as being fantastically, uniquely Moroccan, they provide an aesthetic and tranquil oasis of calm - essential for any visitor spending a day or two in this city.
We spent five deliciously hectic days at Riad Dar One and would recommend it to all who are looking for a fabulous riad experience without spending a fortune. http://www.riad-dar-one.com

Make no mistake. Sicily gets under your skin. The largest island in the Mediterranean is a part of Italy but it has a unique character of its own. Sicily is where natural beauty meets humanity in an incredible melting pot of cultures, landscapes and cuisine.
Capo d'Orlando was my first solid introduction to "Sicilia" this summer, and it was fabulous. A week of exploring beaches, getting lost on the crumbling old side streets in the hot sun, trying local dishes and hanging out in the markets, it couldn’t have been more local and more special.
The town itself enjoys a spectacular position, looking over the Tyrrhenian sea and facing the Aeolian Islands, with to the rear the imposing green backdrop of Nebrodi.
Our time in Sicily left us wanting to explore so much more. On the list: Catania, climb Etna and Trapani. And of course, a trip to Ortigia.
Juan Carlos I, 48, 07360 Lloseta, Tel. +34 656 738 214, www.restaurantsantitaura.com
Escorat, Cala Ratjada
Avenida Gabriel Roca, 6, 07590 Cala Rajada, Tel.

Ginger
It's one of our very favorite things. Ginger teabags and fresh ginger can be a lifesaver. It’s been used for centuries to treat all kinds of ailments, including the common cold or a nervous stomach. Sucking on a piece of ginger can help fight off nausea caused by a rocky boat or a stuffy bus traveling too fast down a dirt road.
Carabiners
They have a cool name, and they hold stuff together. When you’re not using them, you can leave them hanging on your backpack or suitcase.
Braided Leather Belt
The braided belt may not be the coolest accessory, but it’s among the most useful for the simple fact that you can make it as tight as you want. Besides holding your pants up, it can be used to secure bags or other items, make a tourniquet or fashion a handle.
Drain Stopper
You never know when you might need to bathe somewhere not meant for bathing. A drain stopper doesn’t take up much packing space and it’s really useful if you need to bathe in a public sink.
A hoodie
Take a hoodie in case you get cold on a train or in an airport. Even if you’re going somewhere tropical, a hoodie is useful for stuffing with laundry to create a makeshift pillow. There’s also something really comforting about having your favorite hoody around.
A scarf
A light scarf can be a fashion accessory to distract from the fact that you’ve been wearing the same thing for several days. But it can be so much more. A bathing suit cover. A makeshift towel. It can also be used to cover your head or shoulders if you want to enter a religious building that requires modest dress. In really hot climates, get the scarf wet and wrap it loosely around your neck to keep you cool. A scarf can also be used as a sling if you get injured, or a mask if you find yourself in a dust storm.
A wristwatch
Having a cheap watch that has no sentimental value can be really useful if you ever find yourself without cash and in need of a ride or assistance. You can trade it or give it away as a gift. You can also use a wristwatch to tell time if your phone dies, and an analog watch can double as a compass.
What to see. Capri is an island with a lot of caves, coves and steep cliffs that can be admired in all their beauty, especially in the sunlight. If you have just a few hours, in fact, you cannot miss the chance of taking the classic (yet always charming) photo in front of the Faraglioni. Then move towards the Giardini di Augusto: a very well-kept true botanic garden dating back to the early 1900’s from where to enjoy an incomparable panoramic view of Capri. Another un missable place is Villa San Michele, a house that belonged to a Swedish doctor who made a place filled with Roman, Etruscan and Egyptian ruins and remains livable . Till this day, the villa preserves this remains which are enriched by a garden of Mediterrean flora. Tradition has it that if you place your left hand in the Sphinx that you’ll find inside the garden and make a wish looking at the sea, your wish will come true. Finally, you wouldn’t want to miss what is considered to be the island’s biggest attraction, the Grotta Azzurra! You can reach it with a small rowboat and just going through the entrance is an experience: to get in you will have to completely lay down because the opening is just 1m high. Once in, a sea of an almost unnatural color.
Beach life. Besides the into the blue of the Grotta Azzurra, we suggest some of the most beautiful and well equipped beaches in the island. A little street that starts at the Hotel Punta Tragara leads to La Fontelina a beach complex right next to the Faraglioni, with a restaurant to enjoy local dishes with an incomparable view. Then the famous La Canzone del Mare in Marina Piccola, the favorite beach of international celebrities that features an amazing infinity pool overlooking the sea
Eating Mediterranean. In Capri you can eat really well and not necessarily spending a fortune. Try Aldo, a small shop by the marina: here you’ll have the panini alla caprese (buffalo mozzarella, tomato and oregano) the best of the area at a super good price. In the afternoon, while at the beach, stop by Buonocore (via Roma 36) for a very delicious ice cream. Our favorite flavors? O’ Sarracino and Caprilù…discover the ingredients! You wish to have dinner in enchanting surroundings? Then reserve a table at Paolino: seafood cuisine to enjoy right in the middle of a lemon garden. A small luxury that is worth indulge in at least once!
Cocktails and nightlife. Not just sea and sun, Capri is beautiful and alive even at night. For a true Mediterranean cocktail head to Tiberio (piazza Umberto I): Spritz or iced wine, accompanied by a quite unusual buffet: caprese salad, Naepolitan small pizzas and frisellona stuffed with fresh cherry tomatoes. Not very cheap but it will have you breathe the air of the Capri dolce vita. At night, letting loose at Anema e Core, the most famous tavern of the island, is a must, here it’s not unlikely to run into world famous celebrities like Beyoncé, Mariah Carey and Naomi Campbell. After the restaurant service, the place transforms into a club: everyone dances on the tables, even to traditional Neapolitan music!

Tips for anchoring
We highly recommend the beautiful little sandy bay of Fetovaia, where you will be moored at about 10 metres. The Elviscot wreck is but a short way away. In addition, Lacona Bay is also a perfect place to moor in winds of up to 25 knots. There is, however, limited protection against stronger winds and waves.
Don’t miss Marina di Campo!
When you reach Marina di Campo, you will find the largest beach on Elba Island right next to it. You can anchor in front of it and go for a stroll on the beach or visit the
village and the lighthouse.
The place is magnificent. The village, the sunsets, the beach and the surrounding natural spaces contribute to the cozy and warm atmosphere of this place.
The anchorage offers a solid hold and is protected from Northerly winds.
We set sail to the enchanting Porto Azzurro at sunset is amazing, located in the largest gulf of the east side of the island, the Gulf of Mola. Arriving at sunset is a breathtaking spectacle, as the sky tinges with red behind the hills of the gulf. In the evening the streets come alive with stalls in a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere. Piazza Matteotti, the most beautiful square on the island is perfect for romantic walks. Stroll along the Carmignani promenade, a panoramic path that stretches along the coast of Porto Azzurro.
The 2nd option is the anchorage of Porto Azzuro, located in the bay just west of the marina. The anchorage can accommodate dozens of boats. The bay is protected from all winds
except those coming from the West.
With a sandy bottom guaranteeing good holding and clear water, the anchorage is very popular.
You have the possibility to go to the village with your dinghy to enjoy its many entertainments, cultural and bucolic activities.
In spring, during May and early June, you'll encounter delightful sailing conditions as the whole world blooms and the islands resemble a fragrant botanical garden.
Happy sailing and may the wind be at your back!
