Behind the name: Finding the name Ambra for a new Swan 48 was not as easy!

We were looking for a name which is recognized internationally and has a meaning for us.

The name should not be to short or long and easy to spell when you call someone via VHF for example.

Why did we call our new sailing boat Ambra, the Italian variant of Amber.

We startet our journey in the Baltic Sea. The stone amber can be found on the coast and is called „Gold of the north“.

The amber stones have been used for jewelry for thousand years and they found their way to the Black Sea by the way of a trade route called Amber Road. 

Amber was considered the "soul of the tiger" in Asian cultures and regarded as the stone of courage. Pieces of amber were carried for protection during long travels. It is also believed that Amber balances emotions and attracts good luck. 

In addition, Ambra is a a seductive fragrance perfume by Etro for women and is my favorite parfume since 1989.

We like the name and all the reasons above confirmed our choice.
